FOHI Volunteers at Hog Island
Each year the Friends of Hog Island (FOHI) - camp alumni and friends - volunteer to help open and close the buildings throughout the program sessions. Prior to the camp sessions, volunteers prepare the buildings and grounds for campers, including maintenance work (skilled and unskilled carpentry, painting, cleaning, gardening and general housekeeping) and assist in the kitchen. At the end of the season, volunteers close down the camp by making repairs, painting, gardening, and other tasks.
During program sessions, a limited number of volunteers assist in the kitchen, do light housekeeping, and help with maintenance tasks (e.g., painting, carpentry, cleaning). Volunteer positions on island are coordinated by the Friends of Hog Island. Priority for these limited positions is given to prior Hog Island FOHI volunteers and camp alumni. FOHI opening and closing workweeks are scheduled annually in May and September before and after the camp sessions. For these weeks, only FOHI volunteers are on the island.
